ABSTRACT
In the world of the digital era, we may observe increasingly younger generations growing up with digital technologies at their fingertips. Their increased usage among today’s young adults raises concerns about the impact on their mental well-being, as high levels of connection are associated with dubious behaviour, low self-esteem, and depressive symptoms. In response to these findings, the concept of “social media detox” has emerged, which involves voluntarily limiting or completely discontinuing its handling in order to improve mind wellness. The study examines the results of the survey titled Slovaks in the Net 2023, bearing in mind Generations X, Y, and Z. The aim of the research was to explore how the amount of time spent online affects the physical and mental health of respondents across generations, and to identify their attitudes towards digital detox and online safety. The results showed that the negative consequences of electronically connected activities are present in all age groups. The outcomes support the need for educational and preventive strategies focused on digital hygiene and safe networked performance, while considering generational differences.
